I’ve been reading, studying, and practicing psychology since I picked up my first volume of Freud in middle school nearly 60 years ago. At the time, I was trying to figure out what made my wack family tick. Turns out, I loved the whole enterprise, and the rest was, as they say, history.
But by the Spring of 2026, about to leave the part-time teaching position I took up to keep body and soul together after my husband died and I quit clinical practice, I thought maybe it was time I put down psych for good.
Or nah. In a last-ditch bid to avoid sinkin’ into irrelevance, I’m startin’ a freakin’ blog.
That’s what it does for me: Keeps me involved, connected, and contributing. Keeps me thinking! What it does for you, I hope, is give you a place to learn practical, useful, interesting things both about your own mind and about what makes others tick. Psychology is everywhere, all the time, at the root of everything human, and so many articles will be sparked by current events and will tackle them from the psychological point of view that popular media often neglects.

One last note: I write in plain English, passing on my clinical and personal experience and interpreting research for intelligent, literate lay readers. Out of respect for you as such, and to protect my own integrity and reputation–not to mention out general moral and ethical considerations and concern for the environment–I will never use generative AI platforms (LLMs) to “brainstorm”, write, or edit a Docsplainer. Everything you see here is my work, created for you with love.
GenAI can’t do that.
